The season finale
Stories resolve on a fixed date, the wait is publicised in advance, and the audience is given a date to be in the same place at the same time.
The modern ritual version of the serial. A year-long shared countdown, with the entire audience aimed at one moment, is the parasocial equivalent of a religious festival and functions identically.
Application. One-sided attachment put to work on purpose. Creator economies, community, fandom as infrastructure, and the things that genuinely help people. Not automatically good - a tool with an obvious use is a tool that will also get a bad one.
