The athlete and the city
Support for a team or an athlete as a bond with a person, a place and a lineage, frequently inherited from a parent.
The most durable parasocial bond in the world and the one least discussed as parasocial, because it is assumed to be about sport. The transfer window is the standard betrayal story, which is a parasocial grievance wearing a football shirt.
Application. One-sided attachment put to work on purpose. Creator economies, community, fandom as infrastructure, and the things that genuinely help people. Not automatically good - a tool with an obvious use is a tool that will also get a bad one.
