Green Shield Stamps
A national loyalty scheme in Britain, redeemed for goods, with a book of stamps kept in the house.
The first loyalty programme most families would have lived with for a generation, and a physical object in the home. The customer's book of stamps is an account balance that lives in a cupboard, which is a genius piece of interface design that nobody has beaten.
Manipulation. One-sided attachment engineered for somebody else's benefit. Paid intimacy, parasocial persuasion, sasaeng, grief extraction, the streak. The lane that pays the bills and the lane that causes the most harm, frequently at the same time.
