The coach
An adult with authority over a child for years, who is remembered partly by how they made them feel at nine.
A bond that shapes adult attachment patterns decades later, entirely outside anything the parasocial literature studies. Most people's template for one-sided attachment is a coach and they have never been asked about it.
Application. One-sided attachment put to work on purpose. Creator economies, community, fandom as infrastructure, and the things that genuinely help people. Not automatically good - a tool with an obvious use is a tool that will also get a bad one.

- retrievableA meta-synthesis of 63 qualitative studies, and the direct refutation of this entry's claim that nobody has asked about the coach. One of its three emergent categories is the 'PYD climate' - adult relationships, peer relationships and parental involvement. It reports that 'positive and sustained adult-youth relations' is one of the Big 3 programme characteristics associated with development; that Cote, Turnidge & Evans' Personal Assets Framework places 'relational factors (i.e., quality relationships)' among its three elements, generating change in confidence, competence, connection and character when repeated over time; and that Catalano et al. list 'warm, supportive relationships' among eight programme characteristics. - unverifiedThe source of the 4 Cs that coaching effectiveness is measured against: competence, confidence, connection and character. Connection is defined as 'positive bonds and social relationships with people inside and outside of sport' - so the relational bond is one of the four things a coach is explicitly judged on producing. Volume and issue confirmed against Crossref as 4(3); the journal's own landing page says 4(4), and Crossref was preferred. Publisher returns 403 to an unauthenticated request.Cote, J., & Gilbert, W.
