The comic strip
A recurring cast of characters, in a fixed panel order, appearing every single day without exception for decades.
The first daily serial in print and the template for the daily TV schedule that followed it. Continuity is the mechanism: you come back because yesterday happened to them too.
Application. One-sided attachment put to work on purpose. Creator economies, community, fandom as infrastructure, and the things that genuinely help people. Not automatically good - a tool with an obvious use is a tool that will also get a bad one.
