Character.AI
User-created characters at scale, with a public character gallery and a discovery feed organised around personas.
A parasocial bond with a catalogue, which is a significant escalation. The unit is no longer a person or a product but a browsable index of persons, and the discovery mechanism is the attachment mechanism.
Application. One-sided attachment put to work on purpose. Creator economies, community, fandom as infrastructure, and the things that genuinely help people. Not automatically good - a tool with an obvious use is a tool that will also get a bad one.
